Here are the tools this workflow uses. These are all platforms you can set up in a few minutes.
1. Make
Make is the visual automation builder that runs the workflow. It is where you will import the free template.
2. Dropbox
This acts as the trigger. When you upload a file, the automation starts. Dropbox is easier and more reliable than Google Drive for this type of workflow.
3. Submagic
This is the heart of the AI video editing step. Submagic edits your video automatically, adds captions, trims silence, adds zooms, and more.
4. ChatGPT API
Chatgpt writes your social media caption for you based on your transcription.
Now let’s set everything up.
Budget before you start: This is not a completely free automation. Submagic API access requires a paid plan with an API allowance; extra minutes may cost more. Make uses credits, Dropbox has storage limits, and the OpenAI API is billed separately from a ChatGPT subscription. Check the current Submagic plans and test one short clip before scaling.
Step 1. Create Your Trigger Folder in Dropbox 📁
Start by creating a new folder in Dropbox. This is where all future raw videos will go.
Upload a test clip so you can run your automation later.
Inside Make, go to:
Scenarios > Create Scenario > Import Blueprint
Upload the free template file.
You will see the Dropbox module at the start of the workflow. Connect your Dropbox account and choose the folder you created. Set the limit to 1 unless you plan to bulk upload.
Once that is done, you are ready for the next step.
Step 2. Automate Your Editing with Submagic 🎬✨
This is where the real AI video editing happens. Submagic takes your raw clip and gives you a polished, social ready video without touching a timeline.
Here is what Submagic does automatically:

To connect it:
Log into Submagic
Go to Account Settings
Open the API tab
Generate an API key
Copy the key
Back in Make, click the Submagic module and paste your key in the field.
You will see some fields and code already filled in. You do not need to change any of it unless you want to customize your editing.
For example:
• If you want Hormozi style captions, leave it as is
• If you want Beast style captions, change the template name
• If you want more or less b roll, change the 50 percent frequency
• If you want faster silence trimming, adjust the value
These are all optional. The default setup is solid.
Once Submagic receives your file, it begins AI video editing automatically.
Step 3. Wait for the completed render
My demonstration uses a five-minute wait before retrieving the edited video. That is a starting delay, not proof that the render has finished. Longer files and queues can take more time.
Check the project status and retrieve the final video URL only after processing completes. If the project is still running, wait and check again instead of sending an empty or unfinished URL to the publishing modules. Keep a record of which source files have already been published so a retry does not post duplicates.
Step 4. Use ChatGPT to Write Your Captions ✍️🤖
This is where the caption writing happens.
You will use the ChatGPT API to:
• Read the transcription
• Summarize your message
• Write a short social caption
• Include relevant hashtags
• Add a clear call to action
To set it up:
Visit platform.openai.com
Go to API keys
Generate a new key
Add an API budget and monitor usage; the cost depends on your model and volume
Add your key to the ChatGPT module in Make
You do not need to modify the prompt. I wrote a complete prompt that handles everything automatically.
Step 5. Connect and test your publishing destinations
The blueprint demonstrates Instagram for Business and Facebook Reels. Connect the accounts you control and review the destination and caption mapping before running the publishing step.
Adding another network is not always a copy-and-paste change. Check whether Make supports the publishing action you need and whether that network requires a particular account type, permission, or media format. Start with one destination and confirm the result before adding more.
Testing Your AI Video Editing Automation 🧪
Before you turn it on, you should test the workflow once.
Inside Make:
Right click the first module
Click Choose Where to Start
Select Manually
Pick your test file
Click Run Once
You will see it move through each step:
• Dropbox retrieves the file
• Submagic begins editing
• The Wait module allows time for rendering
• ChatGPT writes your caption
• Instagram and Facebook post your content
Check Instagram or Facebook to confirm it worked.
You will see your freshly edited clip with captions and b-roll ready to go.
For your first run, stop before the publishing modules and inspect the edited video and generated caption. Check the cuts, names, B-roll, audio levels, destination account, and caption. Then publish a single test and confirm that it appears once.
Turning Your Automation On 🔛
Once your test succeeds, toggle the workflow on in the top right corner.
Set the interval to 15 minutes. This means Make checks your Dropbox folder every 15 minutes to see if a new file was added.
And that is it.
